Some more details about new HoP functions (SoH, SPS11, ScaleOut etc.)

News Posted on Wed, November 25, 2015 13:15:38

SAP released SAP HANA SPS11 on November, 23rd, 2015 and HANA on POWER is now
part of the HANA Platform Edition.

This means, HANA on POWER is functional
equivalent to the Intel platform – with very few exceptions only. Please check
the following two SAP notes for the latest updates regarding all supported use
cases:

2218464 – Supported products when running SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems

2133369 – SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems: Central Release Note for SPS 09 and SPS 10

The SAP HANA SPS11 release note is now a common release note and shows
that HANA SPS11 is available for IBM Power Systems and Intel based hardware
platforms. It also documents the HANA features and options that are currently
supported on Intel-based hardware platforms only:

2227464 – SAP HANA Platform SPS 11 Release Note

The following list shows a few features and uses cases that were often
asked for and are now available on POWER with HANA SPS11:

·
HANA DB features and options:

·
DataMart

·
Smart Data Access

·
Dynamic Tiering

·
Multitenant Database Containers
(MDC)

·
SLT (System Landscape
Transformation)

·
and others …

·
HANA scale-out (multi-host) support:

·
Up to 16 nodes, 3TB maximum memory size per node
reaching a max HANA BW size of 48 TB. See SAP Note 2188482 to check the latest
status regarding support for larger memory configurations. Exceptions for larger
deployments need to be driven to SAP by the customers.

·
The standard Linux file system for scale-out is XFS.
Hence, a shared disk deployment must be used for scale-out implementations
(contrary to a shared filesystem). See SAP Note 2055470 for updates and
non-production relaxations for the file systems.

·
For SAP Business Warehouse only (same as Intel)

·
The multi LPAR support is also valid for scale-out
deployments.

·
Supported Application Use Cases
SAP note 213369 and 2218464 now state the support for the following SAP
Business Suite products and other applications:

·
SAP EHP1 for SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse 7.3

·
SAP Business Warehouse 7.4

·
SAP ERP 6.0 EHP7

·
SAP CRM 7.0 EHP3

·
SAP SRM 7.0 EHP3

·
SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.1
SP03

·
SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1 (in
controlled availability)

Please note that SAP BusinessObjects and Business Planning and
Consolidation are supported starting with SPS11 only.

Support for other SAP Business Suite modules will follow at a later
date.

The HANA service pack SPS11 can be downloaded immediately from the SAP
Service Market Place. The IBM Planning Guide starting with Version 2.2 is the
first to reflect scale-out requirements: http://www.ibm.com/support/techdocs/atsmastr.nsf/WebIndex/WP102502)

Public SAP communication about this milestone will
appear early December in combination with some further SAP marketing
announcements.

Ab sofort unterstützt SAP SE mehrere HANA-DBs auf einem IBM Power System

News Posted on Wed, November 11, 2015 10:21:57

Hier der englische Original-Text der IBM internen Kommunikation:

IBM
PowerVM now allows for highest flexibility and most effective
operations of multiple SAP HANA workloads on a single IBM Power System

SAP SE has announced support for multiple production HANA databases running on virtualized IBM Power Systems.
This is a major step forward in exploiting the leading PowerVM
virtualization technologies for SAP HANA landscapes and a further
differentiator for IBM Power Systems regarding flexibility and resource
usage compared to other SAP HANA solutions.

SAP-Note 2230704 “SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems with multiple – LPARs per physical host” documents that up to four concurrent production HANA database partitions are now supported
on a single POWER8 Enterprise Class server (E870 and E880). The S-Class
models and the E850 are allowed to host up to three concurrent
production HANA database partitions. The SAP sizing rules for HANA
production systems apply to each of the individual HANA partitions. In
case a system is operating with less than the maximum number of allowed
production HANA partitions, additional workload (e.g.,
non-production HANA systems, application servers, or other applications)
can run in one or more partitions in a Shared Processor Pool
. For I/O virtualization, optional VIO server partitions can be deployed in addition to the number of allowed application partitions.

Production SAP HANA in-memory databases must be deployed
using dedicated or dedicated-donating processor configurations. With the
latter, idle CPU resources of the HANA production partitions can be
used by partitions contained in a Shared Processor Pool. This
effectively allows utilizing the overall system resources while lowering
TCO.

In addition, the support for multiple production partitions
now enables joint SAP and IBM POWER customers to align their HANA
deployments with the typical standard in their data centers.

SLES11 SP4 now “default”…

News Posted on Fri, November 06, 2015 12:09:50

Recommendation from IBM HANA on POWER LAB:
Since October 12th, SLES 11 SP4 is approved to operate SAP HANA on
Power. It is highly recommended to deploy all new installations on SP4
and to plan for upgrades of old SP3 based installations. The advantages
of SP4 is that it is a default kernel compared to the PTF requirement of
a SP3 deployment. SLES 11 SP4 also comes with advantageous features
such as large_send for better ethernet throughput when using 10GB
Ethernet cards.

Erfolgreiche Auftaktveranstaltung „SAP HANA on IBM POWER“ in Walldorf

News Posted on Thu, September 24, 2015 18:05:08

Thementag „SAP HANA on POWER“ am
21. September 2015 ein voller Erfolg!

Nach der Begrüßung und Vorstellung durch die ABK-Leiter Manfred Engelbart (COMMON), Carsten Schulz (DSAG) und Ulrich Klenke (GSE) hieß der Gastgeber
von IBM, Dr. Dietmar Wierzimok, die Angereisten herzlich willkommen.

Nicht nur die Vorträge
